President's Message - Diane Graves-Smith
October 2003

Greetings to my fellow master naturalists,

Where does the time go? It seems like every week I make a list of things I that want to do. Then, life gets in the way and I am consumed with chores and obligations. Next thing you know, another week has passed. Does this sound familiar? Well, I think I have found a way to escape, at least partially, from that rut. Maybe this will work for you.

I recognize that my job, my family and my home all require my attention first. However, I designate one weekend day per month for me to "rejuvenate". Then I look at the list of options offered from Jeff's list of volunteer and advanced training opportunities, the Fort Worth Nature Center list of activities, field trips by the local National Audubon group and Native Plant Society options. From these, I can choose an activity that fits the calendar and schedule it right away.

It may not seem like much, but that one outing does wonders for me physically, emotionally and spiritually. And, the opportunity to get outdoors can't be beat. Finally, it satisfies my need to get involved and contribute to making the world a better place.

I hope you have ways to fit in similar activities. This is the time of year that being outdoors is once again enjoyable. And, let's not forget time is running out to get in our hours for certification and recertification. Frances Fehribach needs our hours. The December celebration will be here before we know it. Don't lose track of time and miss out on the wonderful pins offered by our program.

I hope to see you in the field!
